Olya Elisseva
Born in 1987 in Moscow, graduated from the Central College of Art and Design. St Martin and Camberwell College of Art in London, at the moment live and work between Tbilisi Georgia and Slima Malta.
My art practice is a subjective reaction to the surrounding reality. Combining various media, the artist creates figurative spatio-temporal works, where the course of life is already controlled by other, new concepts of forms, born from familiar matters. The relationships between emotional memories form a central theme in Olya's art, as she adeptly captures the essence of fleeting moments and the reflections of reality. It breathes life into stories that might otherwise remain untold. An artist uses allegory and symbols to circumvent, while retaining his ability to express ideas and criticism.
Semantic layering is an integral part of my work, in many respects it is this feature that provokes the viewer to further research and search. Working with performance, painting and video, thats allows me to convey in different ways my ideas about the social sphere, identity and sexuality.
